While participatory art is based on cooperation between artists and citizens, project-art is based on "art in the public interest." Through collaboration with local experts, attention can be focused on social forces and the fulfillment of urban life. In 2004/05, within the framework of the "Shrinking Cities" exhibition, Haarmann realized a film project in cooperation with Leipzig inhabitants. The inhabitants played themselves, acting those "roles" they already play in the urban space - or those that they could play. The project highlighted the media influenced perception of a city as well as the urban subject as an actor. However, artistic work dealing with public space has to question its own role. Which processes are activated within the network of urban development and artistic practice? Anke Haarmann [AHA] is project-artist, curator and philosopher.
