It's been rumoured that Raymond Roussel, the author of Locus Solus, would spend all his time in his hotel room reading books about the country he was in during his travels. On a travel to Egypt, for instance, he did the same and read a century-old book written on the Spice Market in Cairo. Later on, as he was riding in a phaeton through the market, he just ignored the great deal of change the market had undergone in the course of time and what he wrote down in his notebook were the same old clichés he had read in the book. Perhaps Roussel closed his eyes as he was passing through the market.

Asli Cavusoglu is an artist and writer. A great bulk of her work stems from experimental narrative exercises working around mechanisms of erasure, repetition, replicas and narrative interplay. Taking the starting point from her project In Patagonia After Bruce Chatwin, she's going to talk about the idea of traveling.
